The Palms is a large shopping centre located in the north-eastern suburbs of Christchurch, with over 85 specialty stores.
The Palms required unique, illuminated signage to complement their rebuild, having recently refurbished the southern mall entrance.
When working through the architectural plans, we quickly discovered the original spec of push-through letters wouldn’t work and we needed a different solution.
The Signtech team did some R&D and were able to create exactly what the client wanted using a new technique. We fabricated precision router cut 30mm opal acrylic with a custom shaped rebate to the rear to fit a thin LED strip, that we could bend into the serifs of the letters. This ensures an even glow of light, with no spotting.
For the face of the lettering, we scanned the wooden, infinity timber board background, colour matched and printed onto Arlon Blockout media. Then we applied to the face of the letters. By doing this, it has the effect of increasing the outer glow and enhancing the look of this architectural sign.
